ROLE PURPOSE (WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS)

To own user-centric, manufacturable product design that balances aesthetics, usability, cost, and production feasibility, while working closely with engineering to convert concepts into scalable products.

This role ensures products are designed for Indian hospital realities, not just visual appeal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Product Design Ownership

  • Own end-to-end product design for assigned categories:

○    Beds, carts, furniture, accessories

  • Translate user needs into:

○    concepts

○    layouts

○    form factors

○    design intent documentation

2. User & Market Understanding

  • Conduct basic user research:

○    doctors

○    nurses

○    hospital staff

  • Identify pain points related to:

○    usability

○    space

○    workflow

  • Convert insights into practical design improvements.

3. Design for Manufacturability (with Engineering)

  • Work closely with Engineering to:

○    validate concepts for feasibility

○    avoid over-complex forms

○    ensure cost alignment

  • Support design freeze and handover to engineering.

4. Cost & Practicality Awareness

  • Design within defined cost envelopes.

  • Avoid features that:

○    increase part count

○    complicate fabrication

○    increase assembly time

  • Support value-engineering discussions with engineering.

5. Documentation & Communication

  • Prepare clear design deliverables:

○    sketches

○    concept boards

○    layout drawings

○    basic design specs

  • Support sales and marketing with:

○    visuals

○    feature explanations

○    concept rationale

6. Iteration & Improvement

  • Incorporate feedback from:

○    production

○    quality

○    sales

○    customers

Continuously improve usability and appearance without breaking cost or process.

Education

  • Degree / Diploma in Product Design / Industrial Design / Mechanical with design focus

Experience

  • 5–8 years in product / industrial design

  • Experience with manufactured products preferred

  • Exposure to healthcare / furniture / equipment is a plus

Skills

  • Strong sketching & concept thinking

  • CAD / surfacing tools (as required)

  • Ability to explain design decisions clearly

  • Practical mindset (not portfolio-only)

Senior Product Designer

Department: Product Design

Grade: PD-3 / PD-4 equivalent

Compensation: ₹60,000 – ₹90,000 per month

Reporting To: MG-2 (Director / Leadership)

Works Closely With: Engineering, Production, Sales, Marketing Location: Factory / HO
